HP SLATE 500 – A Review


The Slate 500 from the Hewlett Packard is a multi touch tablet PC slate that runs on Windows 7. The HP Slate 500 was actually released on 22nd OCT 10. The original intention of HP was to build the Slate as just an E-Reader, but was further refined by them to produce a device that has better User Interface, browsing capability, and Audio (Music) and Video entertainment. The HP Slate is a device that is low priced, low power consuming, Windows 7 Operating tablet PC.

The HP Slate 500 sports an 8.9 inches multi touch capacitive display having resolutions of 1024 x 600 pixels with pen and digitizer supportability, and features a 3 MP camera at the back and a VGA camera on its front. The Intel Atom Z540 1.86 GHz processor and 2 GB DDR2 RAM powering the working of the Slate, contains 64 GB flash memory and a USB 2.0 port standard support. The Integrated Graphics accelerator from Intel GMA 500, together with HD media Accelerator card from Broadcom Crystal provides the support for video playback at 1080p. The Slate 500 has got Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi capability and 3G supports from HP Wireless Broadband. All of these working on a two-cell 30 WHr Li-Ion battery that gives 5 hrs of working time. The HP Slate 500 comes with a digitizer/stylus pen that lets you do free hand drawing and writing on screen.

The Slate 500 works on Windows 7 Operating System that gives additional performance impact. The HP and Adobe Systems provide the Slate 500 with a complete web feel that lets you play Adobe contents and AIR apps. At first, the price of the HP Slate 500 was USD 799. But now, HP has decreased the price, due to competition from its competitors and is sold at USD 549. The latest news from HP is that the HP Slate 500 is sold out till Christmas and so additional demands will have to wait till the Christmas gets over.
